Thousands Raised for Borneo Rainforest Charity

To coincide with the season for giving, Christmas Tree World has been raising thousands of pounds for a very special cause.

As the UK’s leading supplier of artificial Christmas trees, we pledged to plant a tree in Borneo for every order from our website. Christmas Tree World joined forces with Borneo Nature Foundation (BNF) in a bid to help save the south-east Asian rainforest.

Each order we received this year has raised money to plant a new tree in Borneo, helping to save the island’s critically endangered orangutans.

This partnership will protect some of the most important and damaged areas of tropical rainforest in the world, safeguarding its wildlife, environment and indigenous culture, whilst contributing towards the fight against climate change.

Christmas Tree World can reveal we have raised £17,322 for the Borneo Nature Foundation (BNF) to help save the rainforest.

In a partnership which saw money raised to plant a new tree in the Borneo Sebangau rainforest for every realistic Christmas tree order placed, the money raised to date will be now be used to plant over 17,000 trees.

Christmas Tree World hopes to pay for the plantation of up to 25,000 trees by the end of January 2020, which could see an area of over 50 hectares reforested.

Stephen Evans, owner of Christmas Tree World, said: “The Borneo Nature Foundation was a natural choice when searching for a charity partner.

“Climate change is the most important issue globally in this day and age, and with our background in traditional horticulture, we have a real affinity with what the charity is working to achieve.

“We’d like to thank our customers for supporting this initiative and are proud to make a contribution to tackling the issue of climate change, as well as providing valuable habitat for the world's few remaining wild orangutans.

“We’re looking forward to presenting the final cheque at the end of January and would urge customers to take advantage of our January sale, as well as supporting this worthy scheme.”

The BNF is a not-for-profit conservation and research organisation, which works to protect some of the most important areas of tropical rainforest and to safeguard the wildlife, environment and indigenous culture on Borneo.

Susan M. Cheyne BSc (Hons) PhD, co-director of the Borneo Nature Foundation, added: “In just four short decades, Borneo has lost over 50% of its tropical rainforest coverage, due to industrial-scale deforestation, illegal logging and wildfires caused by man-made interference.

“This is coupled with the devastating effects on the local wildlife, with animals at danger from both poachers and losing their natural habitat.

The partnership will continue into 2020 with Christmas Tree World continuing to pay for a seedling to be planted in Borneo for every order placed on their website in its January sale.
